That idea is made apparent with the latest pixelated genre title to emerge in Research Story, where we're finding other ways to deliver the same game. Initial impressions showcase not much to separate this title from any other casual farm simulator. Still, the name could lead to something different.
It's easy to think from the game's name that you'd take on the role of a lab researcher or something directly related to scientific exploration. But we get the feeling that Research Story is more of a horticulturalists angle, meaning that it's likely to be another clone of popular farming sims but with a different focus. We won't know until we explore Research Story, so let's crack on.
Anyone that stumbled across Research Story might feel let down that the game isn't actually about doing science in a high-tech lab. That would be more unique and intriguing. The game environment they'd enter would be too familiar to casual gamers and farm sim enthusiasts. A pixelated, cozy farm environment with a charming narrative to get things going.
Research Story gives the motive to build your farm for a couple of reasons. The main of which is filling your archive with all the collectibles. Strangely, that turns out to be more entertaining than anticipated because of the cutesy animal friends and interesting town folk you meet along the way. The other significant reason is that even though it's similar to other genre games, that feeling of coziness is unmatched.
The game also offers customization elements through the crafting mechanics, which separate core gameplay from being a complete copy-paste job. However, those who have invested thousands of hours into other farming sims won't find a lot different here. Research Story will go down as "just another farming game."
One note we'll make is that Research Story is in early access, meaning that fundamental parts of gameplay are subject to change. However, the core gameplay has been established. The visuals, mechanics, and narrative don't differentiate too much from the high-standard farming sims. It's worth playing, but not if you've invested much time in other farm sims.

I kept building after saving the crew, up until sinking my ship with weight.A couple of suggestions I think worth considering:- Give player the ability to rotate debris before attaching (thus changing weight distribution)- Dynamic environment, such as encountering obstacles that damage ship forcing player to change strategy and rebalanceThis game is a winner, keep up the good work bucko!
I enjoyed this game, it was surprisingly more difficult than I expected. Though it frustrated me a little that I kept loosing it was still so much fun. What a unique idea, keep up the wonderful game development.
this game was surprisingly fun i had spent awhile in game though trying to make the biggest boat possible and instead of dying i fell off the edge of the world it was quite funny to just see my boat fly off the world

I think I'm encountering a bug right at the beginning of the game. I can't actually leave the first location. I can enter the truck but it won't move at all. While sitting inside the truck you can hear the character make sounds when jumping/attacking, but I can't do anything else. I've tried every button combo, movement with WASD, arrow keys, and controller, and all in both 32bit and 64bit Windows versions. I can move across both screens at the home/dock, but can't leave to access the rest of the game.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to run the browser version very well when I tried last night, but I was having trouble running a number of different games in browser. I'll restart my system and try a few thing and see if it works then. Thank you for the reply though!
Hi, I tried your game. It is very good. Has nice ideas, especially hitting with the objects, nice animations and love the pixel art. The font was very difficult for me to read and also going back and forth to the truck to refill it was a bit annoying (perhaps have a backpack somewhere, which contains more items). The game definitely has potential.
